What does the course involve? 

Through the two-year programme, you will study 6 units. 2 Externally assessed units:  

  • Fundamentals of Human Biology 
  • Health and Disease 

Then four non-examined assessments: 

  • Genetics 
  • Biomedical techniques 
  • The Brain 
  • Nutrition and Metabolism

If you enjoy learning about the human body systems or health and disease, and you have ambitions to learn more about scientific techniques and their application in health or anatomy related scientific careers, then you will enjoy the AAQ Human Biology course. 

The Alternative Academic Qualification Level 3 Extended Certificate is a mixed delivery course encompassing practical experiments that allow you to learn in the context of realistic workplace situations. As well as gaining relevant scientific knowledge, laboratory and analytical skills, you will also develop numerous transferrable skills which will enable you to progress into any career. Valued by employers and universities, the skills gained on this vocational qualification offer a clear route into employment or higher education. The Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A Level.

Entry Requirements 

6 GCSEs grades 9-4 including GCSE English Language (Level 2 Vocational Qualifications at Merit or Distinction will be treated as equivalent to 1 GCSE). Plus:

· Grade 5 in Science (Combined, Core and Additional or Biology in separate Sciences)
· Grade 4 in English Language
· Grade 5 in Mathematics is preferred based on the high mathematical content of the subject.

Exceptions will be considered based on the overall grade profile across relevant subjects.
