Course Information

Duration1 Year

What does the course involve?

The Pearson BTEC Level 2 National First Diploma in Fitness Training and Exercise Instruction is designed for students who seek a career in the fitness and leisure industry, or progression onto a Level 3 course.

This course will encourage your personal development through practical participation in fitness training, and will provide a wider understanding of the sports and leisure industry. As well as being a qualification in its own right, this course offers the opportunity to gain an industry recognised fitness qualification. In combination with further study, this could lead to a career as a fitness instructor or personal trainer.

Not only does the course focus on your fitness and personal training, the course considers a variety of topics including fitness for sport and exercise; leading sports activities; lifestyle and wellbeing; running events; fitness testing and programming, all of which are relevant to the fitness and leisure.

Can I take additional qualifications?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to undertake an industry standard, fitness instructor’s qualification either during your study of the Level 2 course, or after you have progressed on to a Level 3 course.

In addition, it may be appropriate to take other Level 2 qualifications alongside this course, including GCSE re-sits in English and/or Maths, depending upon prior attainment.

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed both externally, through examinations; and internally, through the completion of on-going coursework units and practical assessments.

What are the costs?

The proportion of practical aspects as well as the development of industry experience, means that students enrolling on this course are expected to purchase a track suit and polo shirt, through our approved supplier Total Football, costing approximately £60.

If applying to undertake the additional fitness instructor’s qualification, a £200 fee to be paid up front is required, covering the additional costs of registration on this supplementary course. Upon successful completion, and by agreeing to supervise our college fitness suite, £100 of this fee is refundable.

What is the duration?

This course is completed in one academic year, with opportunities to enrol onto a Level 3 course for a further two years, for those who achieve the required outcomes, and demonstrate the required learning behaviours.
