Tell us about your employment prior to joining One
I have worked within the Beauty industry for 12 years working at various Spa’s and Salon’s. I worked overseas and also carried out a Spa Manager role. I previously carried out a Beauty Tutor role at Suffolk New College while achieving my Assessor Award and recently graduated from my teacher training.
What personal qualities do you need to be successful in your
current role?
You need to be skilful and knowledgeable in Beauty Therapy and current with industry standards. To be a teacher you need to be organised and patient!
What qualifications do you need for your role?
A minimum of 5 years industry experience. Ideally, your A1 Assessor Award and Certificate in Education.
What elements of your role do you enjoy most?
I enjoy helping students achieve their goals. It’s very rewarding when they go into industry and start their careers. I enjoy the buzz of teaching and being in the classroom especially when I'm teaching a new skill.
What's the most challenging aspect of your role?
Getting students to revise and study!
What's a typical day at work for you?
Most days consists of a theory lesson and a practical lesson. We also run client sessions where paying customers come into the salon to receive our beauty services.
What spurs you on to work each day?
When you see students improving and achieving, it motivates you to help them achieve the best grades they possibly can.
Do you have any further comments?
I love working at One. Management and my colleagues have always been very supportive. I have developed and learnt so much along the way. I’ve had a great start to my teaching career!
