Tell us about your employment prior to joining One
After serving an apprenticeship in the motor trade, I’ve worked as 2 motor vehicle lecturer
in a technical college, as 2 motor vehicle trainer of learners with behavioural difficulties and the pastor of a church.
What personal qualities do you need to be successful in your current role?
Technical expertise, flexibility, be a team player, a bit of patience, and always remaining mindful that we're here for the education of young people.
What qualifications do you need for your role?
Motor vehicle vocational qualifications and motor industry ‘experience.
What elements of your role do you enjoy most?
I love it all! But the variety of the role is great. e.g. One day designing a resource for a lesson and on other occasions demonstration equipment and best practice to students. Working with a great team.
What's the most challenging aspect of your role?
Meeting deadlines when time is limited and a lesson depends on a vehicle(s) or resource being set-up with short notice.
What's a typical day at work for you?
Set-up workshop for a practical session - position cars, set-up training activities e.g. setting-up realistic faults on cars for students to diagnose and rectify. Take part in the lesson in my role as HLTA supporting the teacher and supervising the activities of students. Then pack away the kit and start the preparations for the next day's practical sessions.
What spurs you on to work each day?
The enjoyment of seeking to do the best in my role. Seeing students benefitting from well prepared workshops and equipment. The great people I work with!
