One Sixth Form College’s performance art department has delivered another sensational show: the iconic Broadway musical, A Chorus Line.  Adapted for younger performers and audiences, the show retains the heart and soul of the original hit show exploring the struggles, aspirations, and vulnerabilities of a group of young dancers auditioning for a coveted spot in a musical.

Tackling a show as demanding as A Chorus Line is no mean feat but the cast and crew rose to the challenge, delivering a production that felt polished and fresh.   With the simple, but effective minimalist staging and pared back costumes, the focus of the watcher is entirely on the characters and their interactions with Zach, the director as they pour out their dreams and insecurities.

The ensemble nature of the production provided opportunities for multiple standout performances. The introspective monologues by the characters tackle a range of emotions and themes such as racial and sexual identify, relationships and class.  The vibrant choreography and memorable numbers like “I Hope I Get It” and “What I Did for Love” gave the young performers a chance to shine both emotionally and technically.  The dancers tackling the intricate steps with precision demonstrating their growth as performers.

Topped off with the high kicking finale of the showstopper, “One” that never fails to get feet tapping, One’s A Chorus Line was a triumphant production that showcased the talent and hard work of its young performers and a reminder of the joy and vulnerability of putting yourself on the line for something you love.  Powerful life lessons for young people.  Bravo!
