2020 Student Success
Students from One Sixth Form College have been praised after securing an impressive set of A Level and Vocational outcomes that are opening doors to some fantastic careers.
Dr Nikos Savvas, Principal of the College, said: “Whilst the last 12 months have been highly unusual, one thing has been consistent – our students have once again secured an outstanding set of results.
“Whilst it would be easy to simply praise these students for their efforts during lockdown - that would do a real disservice to all that the students have achieved over the full two years of their course. They are an extraordinary group of young people, supported by a remarkable team of staff who have all worked together to create a stunning set of results.”
Despite the national issues about how exam grades have been awarded, over three quarters of all A Levels achieved a C or above. 100% of students passed their BTEC exams.
In addition, ONE has a strong history of doing well in STEM subjects and this year was no different. In Further Maths, 100% of students achieved A* - C with 86% of those achieving A* - B. And in Biology, 91% of students achieved A*-C.
In terms of health and social care courses, where many students had key worker roles or worked in the healthcare industry during lockdown, nine out of ten students gained a triple distinction or merit.
Dr Savvas, continued: “I’m so proud of everyone who has helped make this one of the most successful set of results in our history. We can’t wait to welcome and support current and new students to ONE in September, where we will continue to make a positive difference to the lives of students living in Ipswich and the surrounding areas.
He added: “It is heartening that the success stories at ONE Sixth Form College mirrors that of our other Colleges across the Eastern Colleges Group (West Suffolk College and Abbeygate Sixth Form). I would like to congratulate all those involved.”
